The MoonSwatch 1965 Pays Homage To The Top Replica Omega Speedmaster Watches’ NASA Tests

Few cheap replica Omega watches have captured the public imagination quite like the MoonSwatch. With sold-out releases, long queues, and skyrocketing demand, this result of an unexpected partnership between Omega and Swatch has redefined what watchmaking collaborations can be.

Swatch may have rescued the Swiss watch industry from the quartz crisis in the 1980s, but it always knew its role: to be fun and accessible, and never to compete with the luxury mechanical brands it had helped save. And yet, 40 years later, Swatch finds itself at the centre of another cultural phenomenon – this time alongside its high-end Swatch Group stablemate, clone Omega watches for sale.

When the MoonSwatch debuted in 2022, blending Omega’s iconic Speedmaster design with Swatch’s affordability and playfulness, its runaway success took both brands by surprise. Extraordinary queues snaked outside Swatch stores worldwide, driven not only by the NASA-approved Speedmaster legacy, but also by the exclusivity of in-store-only purchases. Within just eight months, over a million MoonSwatches had been sold. Swatch Group CEO Nick Hayek Jr later revealed to Bloomberg that sales of the actual top replica Omega Speedmaster watches rose by 50 per cent at Omega boutiques following the launch.

The MoonSwatch team kept the momentum going. A year later, they introduced the Mission to Moonshine Gold series, featuring chronograph seconds hands coated in Omega’s proprietary Moonshine gold. In a masterstroke of marketing, all top fake Omega watches were produced only under a full moon, accompanied by a certificate stating its production month. These editions were available for just one day – Mar 7, 2023 – at select Swatch boutiques in London, Milan, Tokyo, and Zurich.

Then in 2024, best copy Omega watches partnered with Sotheby’s for a charity auction benefiting Orbis International, a non-profit dedicated to fighting avoidable blindness. Eleven MoonSwatch Moonshine Gold suitcases were auctioned, each containing all 11 Moonshine Gold editions, along with a monocle and a commemorative coin engraved with the three-letter aviation code of its respective city. The collection fetched an impressive CHF 534,670 (S$808,000), proving that even seasoned collectors found the MoonSwatch worth chasing.

If you haven’t yet bought into the hype, its latest release might just change that. The MoonSwatch 1965 pays tribute to a pivotal moment in horology – the 60th anniversary of NASA officially qualifying the AAA+ replica Omega Speedmaster watches for all manned space missions, beating out submissions from Wittnauer and Rolex. Like its predecessors, the MoonSwatch 1965 features a 42mm bioceramic case, crown, and pushers. Its white dial includes a clever detail: The chronograph counters at 10 and 2 o’clock display “19” and “65” instead of the standard “60” and “10”, a subtle nod to the historic year.

The ongoing success of the MoonSwatch partnership suggests that luxury brands are increasingly relying on mass-market collaborations to maintain relevance, but to sing a less cynical tune, it can also be described as a symbiotic, organic development – one that brings accessibility to luxury, and history to new wrists.
